Snapchat is one of those apps that gets as much love as it does criticism. Whether you’re sick of the constant notifications or just want some peace and quiet, Snapchat makes it simple to delete your account from your computer or smartphone. Here are four simple steps to follow:
Go to Snapchat’s account portal
Go to the Snapchat account portal on your computer and enter the login and password of the account you want to deactivate. Tap the avatar in the top left corner of the app if you’re already there.
Tap the gear button
Tap the gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen and select “I Need Help” from the “Support” menu.
Go to ‘My Account and Security’
Scroll to the bottom to the “My Account and Security” section and click “Account Information.” Click “Delete my Account,” then enter the username and the password for the account you want to remove.
Team Snapchat will send you an email confirming your decision to delete your account.
Account deactivated with a 30-day caveat
Your account has now been officially deactivated, which means you have 30 days to interact with friends on Snapchat while your account remains active. So, if you make a decision about Snapchat, you can simply log in and reactivate your account.
If there is no interaction during this time, your account will be completely deleted after 30 days, which means that your account, friends, Snaps, Chats, device data, and so on will be removed from Snapchat’s user database.
Just so you know, Snapchat says it will continue to “retain some personal data for certain legal, security, and business needs,” such as information about app purchases.
